First Steps to Repelling Mosquitoes
Is there anything I should do before Mosquito Busters visits my land?
We are prepared to help no matter what state the area in question is in, so no preparation is necessary.
If the mosquito problem is particularly unbearable, then prior to our arrival you can look for any sitting water that can be dumped or eliminated. Toys in the yard, inflatable pools, watering cans, tarps, and gutters are items that may have water in them that can be removed.
What are additional measures I can take between treatments to discourage mosquitoes from my yard?
Try to keep up with trimming any grass and hedges. Don't let water accumulate in items like toys, planters, or tarps, as these providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes. If you're going to be spending time in your yard, avoid wearing blue and try to wear lighter colors, as mosquitoes are attracted to darker colors that conceal their presence. Finally, if you're able to keep a fan running wherever you are, this will make it more difficult for mosquitoes to fly in that area!
Why do your Mosquito Busters have to visit every 3 weeks?
Even with the best treatments, which first kill and then repel mosquitoes, factors like sun, rain, and wind cause the treatments to lose efficacy. So these little buggers breed rapidly and eventually backfill.
In order to keep up with the rate at which they do this, it is best to treat any plot of land regularly, and usually 3 weeks is a good time frame.
Are these treatments toxic to my kids? pets? the environment?
We stand behind our treatments as the best options available, and that is true for both the traditional and organic insecticides we use.
If you are concerned about the traditional treatments, read about our organic treatments here. The Essentria IC3 we use for organic treatments is composed of three potent, botanically derived active ingredients: rosemary oil, geraniol, and peppermint oil. All things you can pronounce and identify! (As you might guess, geraniol is derived from geraniums.) These ingredients are powerful, but their effects wear off faster because they work into nature faster, so Mosquito Busters will visit you more frequently for treatments.
How much do traditional treatments cost?
They're more affordable than you might think!
Every plot of land is different. Two really big factors in your quote are the size of the area you want treated, and the density of the vegetation. Our Busters will require more time and treatment for larger pieces of land, and need to give special attention to areas with dense vegetation.
Whether your property is close to a marsh or the sea, whether it's large or small, whether it's lush with greenery or a little more barren will also factor into how intensely it will have to be treated. Email us the address you want quoted, and we will take a look on our maps and apply our formula to get you a quote in as little as 5 minutes!
Are these treatments safe if my kids or pets play near the areas that have been treated?
If you are treating any area where kids will be playing or pets will be living or spending most of their time, organic treatments are the way to go!
Organic treatments kill mosquitoes during appliation, but when dry are repellent for both mosquitoes and black flies. They are not harmful to humans or pets once dry.
How do organic treatments differ from non-organic treatments?
The Essentria IC3 we use for organic treatments is organic-compliant and composed of botanically derived ingredients: rosemary oil, geraniol, and peppermint oil. (As you might guess, geraniol is derived from geraniums.)
These ingredients are powerful, but their effects wear off faster because they work into nature faster, so Mosquito Busters will visit you more frequently for treatments, usually every 2 weeks instead of every 3.
How much do organic treatments cost?
Organic treatments are similar in cost to traditional treatments but they have to be administered more frequently to be as effective.
As with traditional treatments, big factors in your quote are the size of the area you want treated, and the density of the vegetation. Our Busters will require more time and treatment for larger pieces of land, and need to give special attention to areas with dense vegetation.
It's also important to note that every plot of land is different. Whether yours is close to a marsh or the sea, whether it's large or small, whether it's lush with greenery or a little more barren will all factor into how intensely it will have to be treated.

How much do tick treatments cost?
Tick treatments are included with your organic mosquito treatments!
If you'd like to treat your land for ticks, you might as well get a mosquito treatment and take care of both annoyances in one swoop!
If you truly just want to treat for ticks, let us know that when you get your quote.
What can I do additionally to discourage ticks from breeding on my land?
The simplest thing to do is keep up with your yard work! This means mowing regularly, raking up any fallen leaves or weed debris (as well as bagging it getting rid of it), and trimming any hedges that provide extra shady spots for ticks to congregate.
Certain other pests can bring ticks into your yard, as well (like deer and mice). If you have trouble with these sorts of critters, reach out to our parent company, Freedom Pest Control!
Freedom Pest Control

If I need more than mosquitoes and ticks removed, can Mosquito Busters take care of it?
Mosquito Busters is a specialized company for the small, brazen, disease-carrying insects that can breed on your land and make it hard to enjoy your yard or feel safe in it: mosquitoes and ticks! Our Busters are specially trained for this kind of nuisance, and only carry the supplies for exterminating and repelling mosquitoes and ticks.
If you want your yard to be treated for other pests, such as bats, raccoons, ants, mice, bed bugs, squirrels, or termites (and the list doesn't end there!), call Freedom Pest Control at 1-877-PESTS-55.
Where does Mosquito Busters serve?
Mosquito Busters headquarters is in Topsfield, Massachusetts. We serve Massachusetts and some towns in southern New Hampshire. Send us the address you want treated and we can let you know if you fall within our radius!
What about when I'm not at home?
How can I keep bugs away when I'm camping or at the park?
This is a common question. The answer lies in thinking like a mosquito or tick! If you go camping, try to choose a site away from marshes, rivers, and streams. Even though they are pretty, the moisture attracts these annoying pests.
If you're looking for a stronger deterrrent, DEET is a powerful mosquito repellent. While some may be wary to use this spray because of potential side effects, for short-term use it is an effective way to repel the kinds of insects that could bite you and infect you with diseases that could affect your lifespan.
A few other tips are:
- wear light colors
- bring a portable outdoor fan to campsites (to discourage mosquitoes)
- tuck in or tape your pant legs to your boots and socks (to discourage ticks)
- have a family member help you with tick checks regularly after you've spent time outside
